One of my coachees is working in a big central-state-owned enterprise for over 10 years as the executive reporting directly to the President of the company. Recently the company President was changed and my coachee was facing a challenge of reporting to a new boss who has a completely different view on the business strategy from the previous Presidnent. My coachee felt not only overwhelmed by the poor comunication with his new boss, but also confused about his future career path. During the coaching by asking several questions about his value and belief, as well as his previous working experiences, we both understood that he is a person who loves to live in a challenging life. If everything in the work the same for a pretty long time, he feels bored. Actually eventhough the President was not changed, he is still thinking to make a change in his career role. I utilized some coaching tools to help him figuring out what were his concerns while making career change and what was the weight of each factor. Finally he found that many of his pervious concerns actually were interfering him from clearly seeing the new path he favoured deep in his mind. With clearly undersanding of his situation and his best choice at the moment, he made his first move and the result was pretty good. He is now preparing to be on board to his new career, just as what we together planned during the coaching.
