Developing organizational culture
Exhibits Emotional Intelligence, Demonstrates Resilience, Allocates Time, Demonstrates Initiative
As people get to a new role, normally they will experience stresses which comes from new capability development, new team environment, new goals, etc. And what happens often is people will get to a emotional state which disrupt them from fully perform. In such situations, I often help the coachee to adjust their state to a basically peaceful level and then focus on the key area of their concerns. I have coached managers who joined a new company and found out the culture was way too different from her former company. She worked longer hours but still felt didn't feel fitting in. Within coaching sessions, she realize the high stress came from changing the environment immediately and prove herself. Yet she used the wrong strategy which was pushing too hard before she got good relationship with her new team. So she discovered the key action is to start over with deep conversations with her team members. With really hearing the team, she soon built trust with the team and got better performance.
In the area of Emotional Intelligence, normally people need to step out of their automatic emotional reponse to things happening and people around them. I often use my observation to help coachees to build a more objective self awareness and then from that awareness, they can choose new behavirial responses that are more effective. Then gradually, they will develop new patterns of emotional intelligence.
