I am a German organizational development and leadership expert who spent half his adult life in Asia, mainly in Shanghai, the most metropolitan among China’s major cities. Married to a Thai lady, I also live part-time in Thailand.
I apply a highly systematic approach to performance coaching based upon a competency model consisting of 67 competencies, 10 performance dimensions and 19 career stallers. In addition I am working with two cross-cultural competency models to give structure to my intercultural coaching. For each competency I have a clear definition of behavioral indicators which can be used for self-assessment as well as a 360 degree review.
Running my own boutique consulting and coaching practice frequently working with general managers or CEO's of smaller or mid-sized manufacturing enterprises.
My background in organizational and leadership development in combination with a qualification in individual psychology and my long experience in intercultural and management consulting has enabled me to include mentoring into my coaching practice.
My wish is to help others to further develop their leadership personality, to support them with becoming a more accomplished leader and to be supportive in difficult times, when leaders have to adapt and grow to master specific challenges. I am a certified executive coach and rely on a wealth of frameworks and tools which cover different leadership roles, different stages of leadership development, different competencies and styles and different situational needs.
I hold a M.D. and a PhD from the Free University of Berlin. In my studies on economic policy, industrialization strategies in emerging market economies and international economic relations I especially focused on East Asia and China. I view economic thinking as fundamental to what I am doing. Consequently, I developed and run, together with a partner and co-facilitator, a program called ‘Corporate Entrepreneurship’.

Over the past 15 years I have trained and coached more than hundred managers adapting to their new role as leader of the China organization, leading organizations of different sizes from 20 to more than 1000 employees locally, which operate in various industries as manufacturing, life sciences, sourcing or education. Some of these coaching assignments lasted over several years and I provided here continuous support in leadership development. Delegating and motivating, managing conflict, developing a strategic vision and driving organizational change were areas which were frequently covered. I usually apply 360 degree review tools as well as a large variety of other instruments, from personality profiles to assessments of leadership competencies in general to self-assessments of delegation and motivation skills, preferred leadership or conflict handling styles.
I have led learning and development programs for the top management of smaller, mid-sized and some larger organizations which included group coaching as well individual coaching elements. Developing a strategic vision and driving organizational change, but also managing conflict, were main topics we dealt with in depth. I usually share models and frameworks, methodologies and best practice examples which allow coachees to develop their own solutions in a systematic fashion.
Over the past fifteen years I have coached close to one thousand people from all continents on intercultural competences, mostly Europeans, Asians and Americans working for multinational corporations and being engaged in cross-cultural and cross-border collaboration. This included the coaching of managers who prepared for relocation or had relocated only recently.
