General Summary: Maiyo is a seasoned executive with over 30 years of experience in the F&B and FMCG industries, primarily in Greater China and the Asia Pacific region. He has a proven track record in turning around underperforming companies, building profitable new ventures, and establishing new teams. Living in China since 1988, Maiyo is fluent in both Mandarin and English. His expertise spans across supply chain management, strategic consulting, and overseeing businesses in the Asia Pacific region. Notably, he successfully completed the largest master franchise contract in the Subway corporate system.
Previous Experience: Maiyo has held several leadership positions, most recently as the Managing Director of Subway Restaurants China since 2017, where he transformed the brand and led a team of 100 employees and 350 franchisees across 60+ cities in China. His responsibilities included overseeing marketing, operations, technology, legal, food quality, food innovation, supply chain, and franchisee relations. Prior to this, he was at Lombard Investments, performing due diligence and establishing a turnaround strategy for Overseas Dragon, a Taiwanese fast-food brand. He also worked at YUM Brands China, where he formulated a supply chain strategy that contributed USD $100 million to the bottom line.
Leadership Style: Maiyo is a strategic visionary, leader, and mentor. His leadership has consistently helped companies, brands, and teams reach new heights. He is driven by the belief that perseverance, a positive attitude, and a clear strategic direction can lead to the accomplishment of any goal.
Education: Maiyo holds an EMBA from Kellogg-HKUST and a BSBA from Washington University in St. Louis. His academic background has equipped him with a solid foundation in business leadership and management.
Personal Information: Maiyo is of mixed heritage and has been living in China since 1988. In his free time, he enjoys competitive sailing in his 35-foot yacht, Goddess, in Hong Kong. His other hobbies include hiking, yoga, swimming, cooking, and dining out.

"Always start with the end in mind" is a very important phrase when developing a strategic vision. As an example, in 2017 I wrote a five-year plan to transform Subway Restaurants China and conclude a Master Franchise agreement in order for the brand to expand to 4000 restaurants. The plan was multi-year, detailed and was executed within the time-frame set. Whether the strategic vision is for the entire company or a function within a larger organization, the leader must have a crystal clear vision in order for all other teammates to follow. Once the strategic vision has been established one must possess the executive presence/credibility, cultural sensitives to drive negotiations and influence others so that the strategic vision is executed on-time and flawlessly. Working in a multi-cultural company which possesses a USA based HQ, Singapore based APAC HQ and 10 regional offices in China, once must be able to understand fully all stakeholders in order for them to support all the various projects and changes which must happen in order to accomplish the vision. Every discussion is a negotiation. As a supply chain professional with YUM Brands China for 11 years, everyday was a negotiation. In simple terms, the one that was most prepared for the negotiation was often times the one that achieved the optimal outcome. Everything is life is a negotiation, so the better you prepare the better the outcome is for yourself. In order to possess executive presence and exude credibility one must be confident, sound confident, act confident and look confident. People will follow a confident leader and people can see through one that is not confident and not prepared.
