During my career I experienced transitions to various roles across industries (from chemical manufacturing, to constructions, to healthcare) and functions (from admin to logistics and customer service to marketing and coaching), increasing responsibilities (from specialist to supervisor to manager, cross divisions, etc.) and also from a region to another (from my home country Romania to Middle East and Africa), and from a company to another. All these gave me extensive first hand experience about the challenges the role transitions bring in an individual’s life. What helped me to go through the changes successfully was developing a deep knowledge about myself and how I respond to various situation. The moment I become aware of my strengths, my natural way to interact with people, my goals and motivations I was capable to translate them in the context of others and understand how people I needed to work with wants to be treated, what motivates and engages them and how we can help each other’s achieve our goals. Reflecting on each experience helped me to understand the areas of improvement and put in place effective transitions plans with clear objectives (1 months – 3 months – 1 year). With each transition I become better and better and I made it smoother and smoother.
Navigating through so many changes, it was critical for me to keep a healthy work life balance. I have learnt over the years to alternate intense working and business travel periods with well-deserved and relaxing activities with family and friends, giving myself time to rest and recharge. I have learnt to prioritize and allocate time to be able to complete all activities important for me. I have also developed a support system (family, friends, sometimes colleagues) to help me go through challenging times, ask help when I needed and keep balance without compromising on the results.
